The Rules of Engagement
Last updated · July 2026
Napoleon had lawyers. He also had the good sense not to ignore them.
These terms define the relationship between you and Dirty Laundry — what we owe each other, what anonymity actually means, and what happens if something goes sideways. Written in plain language. No buried clauses. If something here is ambiguous, it gets read in your favor. That's the deal.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By submitting a confession, purchasing a TruthDrop, subscribing to the platform, or simply reading the Live Ledger, you accept these terms in full. Napoleon didn't get to renegotiate Elba after he arrived. Neither do you. If you disagree with anything below, close the page. No harm done.
2. What This Platform Is
Dirty Laundry is an anonymous truth-telling platform. It is not a crisis service. It is not a therapy provider. It is not a legal advisory. It is not a tool for exposing, accusing, or damaging other people. It is a space for individuals to reclaim their own truth, own their own story, and release what they've been carrying. The Secret Keeper reads, witnesses, and responds — that is the extent of the relationship.
3. Anonymity — What It Means and What It Doesn't
"Anonymous" means we do not attach your name, email, IP address, device identifier, or account to your published confession. It does NOT mean legally absolute untraceability. If a court of competent jurisdiction issues a valid subpoena or lawful order requiring us to identify a user, we will comply with the law. We do not voluntarily share your data. We do not build dossiers. But we are not above the law, and we will not pretend otherwise. If you require absolute, legally unbreakable anonymity, this platform cannot guarantee it — and no platform honestly can.
4. Content Retention Policy
Free confessions approved for the Live Ledger are retained indefinitely as part of the public anonymous archive. Paid TruthDrop confessions are retained until the Secret Keeper has read and responded to them. If you purchased the Permanent Burn add-on, your confession is deleted from our servers immediately after reading — no backup, no archive, no residual copy. If you did not purchase Permanent Burn, your confession text remains on the TruthDrop record for the duration of your engagement and may be archived in the Vault. You may request deletion of your confession at any time by contacting us — we will remove it within 72 hours, subject to legal retention obligations.
5. DMCA / Copyright Takedown
If you believe a confession published on this platform infringes your copyright, submit a DMCA takedown notice to the Secret Keeper including: (a) identification of the copyrighted work, (b) identification of the allegedly infringing material and its location on this site, (c) your contact information, (d) a statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use is not authorized, and (e) a statement under penalty of perjury that you are authorized to act on the copyright owner's behalf. We will remove the material within 72 hours of receiving a valid notice. Repeat infringers will have their access terminated.
6. Defamation / Harassment Response
If a confession contains false statements of fact about an identifiable person that cause reputational harm, or constitutes harassment, doxxing, or targeted attack, submit a takedown request to the Secret Keeper with: (a) the specific text or confession number, (b) identification of yourself as the affected party, (c) a brief statement of why the content is false, defamatory, or harassing, and (d) your contact information. We will review and, if warranted, remove or withhold the content within 72 hours. Note: truth is a defense to defamation. A confession that is uncomfortable but true about the confessor's own conduct is not defamatory. We do not remove content simply because it is embarrassing.
7. Acceptable Use
You agree not to use this platform to: post content that constitutes hate speech, credible threats, incitement to violence, or illegal activity; dox or identify private individuals without their consent; harass, stalk, or weaponize the platform against a specific person; post content that you know to be false with intent to deceive; or attempt to identify, de-anonymize, or trace other users. Violations result in immediate removal of content and termination of access. The Count didn't tolerate traitors. Neither do we.
8. Content Moderation
All submissions are reviewed by automated AI moderation before publication. Clean submissions are auto-published to the Live Ledger. Flagged submissions are held for human review. We do not guarantee that moderation will be perfect — false positives may silence someone who needed to be heard, and false negatives may let through something they shouldn't have. If you believe a moderation decision was wrong, you may appeal by contacting the Secret Keeper. Crisis disclosures (active self-harm language) are flagged for human attention, and crisis resources are surfaced to the submitter immediately — but Dirty Laundry is not a crisis service and cannot replace professional intervention.
9. Limitation of Liability
Dirty Laundry, its operators, and the Secret Keeper are not liable for: emotional distress caused by reading confessions or receiving responses; consequences of actions you take based on content published here; failure of the moderation system to catch problematic content; or any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the platform. The maximum liability of Dirty Laundry for any claim related to your use of the platform is limited to the amount you paid us in the 30 days preceding the claim. If that's zero, the maximum is zero. The Count didn't sue the Château d'If for emotional distress. He escaped. We suggest the same energy.
10. No Professional Relationship
Submitting a confession or receiving a response from the Secret Keeper does not create a therapist-client, attorney-client, or medical professional relationship. The Secret Keeper's responses are reflections and insights — not medical advice, legal counsel, or clinical treatment. If you need professional help, seek it from a licensed professional. We cannot be your therapist. If you are in crisis, call or text 988 in the US (988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline — free, 24/7), or visit findahelpline.com for free, confidential support lines anywhere else in the world.
11. Subscription Terms
The $4.99/month subscription grants unlimited confession submissions for the duration of your active subscription. Payment is processed by Stripe. If a renewal payment fails, Stripe will retry automatically per its Smart Retries schedule. During the retry period, your access continues. If all retries fail, your subscription will be canceled and access revoked. You may cancel at any time — access continues until the end of your current billing period, then ceases. No refunds for partial periods. Napoleon didn't get a prorated refund on his imperial subscription.
12. Changes to These Terms
If we change these terms, we will update the date below and note what changed. Material changes will be communicated to active subscribers via email. We will never retroactively weaken your privacy or anonymity protections after you've trusted us with something real. If you continue using the platform after changes take effect, you accept the revised terms.
13. Governing Law
These terms are governed by applicable U.S. law. Disputes will be resolved in the jurisdiction where Dirty Laundry is incorporated. If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest remains in full force.

Wait and Hope."
